Especially on higher difficulties this will make sure that you have enough survival against tougher mobs. Once you’ve hit the Tier 2 bonus of Rapid Strike around Level 8, you can either start using your points on your vent-skills (and pick up Coal Launch for some damage-over-time against boss enemies) or start on working towards the Tier 1 bonus of Power Projection, which will give you (and your allies) an instant 15% heal. Make sure to get an early point into Vortex Bomb to unleash your Heat and get another point into Ramming Robot on Level 5, as well as one point into Power Projection on Level 15. You do want to put your points into Rapid Strike as early as possible, using your first Respectacle to remove Rapid Fire as soon as you can. The early stages of the game with this build are somewhat slow, simply because your area-of-effect damage isn’t the greatest until you’ve finally get the first points into Cyclone Mode.
